Chasing Mona Lisa

I recently had the opportunity to read Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer and Mike Yorkey. Normally when reading for pleasure, I stick to Christian romance but the summary of this story had me intrigued.

About Chasing Mona Lisa:

It is August 1944 and Paris is on the cusp of liberation. As the soldiers of the Third Reich flee the Allied advance, they ravage the country, stealing countless pieces of art. Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring will stop at nothing to claim the most valuable one of all, the Mona Lisa, as a post-war bargaining chip to get him to South America. Can Swiss OSS agents Gabi Mueller and Eric Hofstadler rescue DaVinci’s masterpiece before it falls into German hands?

With nonstop action, Chasing Mona Lisa is sure to get readers’ adrenaline pumping as they join the chase to save the most famous painting in the world. From war-ravaged Paris to a posh country chateau, the race is on–and the runners are playing for keeps.

My Thoughts:

As I mentioned at the beginning, this isn’t normally the type of book I read.  However, when I first received notice of the book tour, something about the summary made me want to read it.  I have always been intrigued by World War II history but have never read any fiction set during that time period.

Chasing Mona Lisa follows the adventures of Swiss OSS agents Gabi Mueller and Eric Hofstadler as they race to save the Mona Lisa from the Nazis.   It is full of adventure, adrenaline, and nail-biting moments.  This is a book that truly keeps you guessing until the end as people and motives aren’t always what they seem.  My immediate thought upon finishing the book was that it would make a good movie.

What I enjoyed most about the book was all the historical details lacing the story.  You can tell the authors really did their homework before they wrote this book.  After I finished the book, I was curious to see how much of it was fact based.  So I did a little bit of research about the Mona Lisa and World War II.  I was pleased to discover that all the little historical tidbits thrown in, like the fact that the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in 1911, were factual.

If you enjoy a good historical novel or love a good nail biter, then I highly recommend Chasing Mona Lisa.
